Dear Members of the Pueblo Ward,
I feel like many of the members of the ward have
not put themselves in the position of qualifying for important blessings that
they could be receiving by obeying the commandment of tithing.
What is tithing?
Giving back a tenth of what we are given by God.
Tithing is 10 percent of our income. (D&C 119:4) Tithing should be paid as it is earned or
received, but may be paid annually.
Some who don’t pay tithing are perhaps looking
from the wrong perspective...as if we’re giving the Lord something that is rightfully
ours or that it is optional. However, the truth is that we are returning
to God a tenth part of all that he has given us. He created us and has given us
our daily breath and sustains us from minute to minute. All He asks is
that we keep His commandments. (Mosiah 2:20-22)
I find it perplexing when a family prays for a good job to provide for
their needs. And then when the Lord
answers their prayers and provides the job, they forget to keep His commandment
of tithing.
What is Tithing Settlement?
Tithing Settlement is the opportunity to declare
your tithing status to the Bishop, who represents the Lord and to make sure
your contribution records are correct. All family members should attend
tithing settlement if possible. Your
declaration is either Full Tithe payer, Partial Tithe payer, or Non-Tithe
payer. Members who have no income are still Full tithe payers.
One of the requirements for a temple recommend
is that a member is a full tithe payer.
What do I do if I have a temple recommend but I
haven’t been paying a full tithe? First,
Repent. Start now to pay a full tithing and make a commitment to pay a
full tithing for the rest of your life. You should attend tithing settlement as
soon as possible and explain your status to the Bishop. He will discuss your
efforts and will probably have you keep your temple recommend and use it to
strengthen your commitment to follow God’s commandments. He will ask you
return three months later to talk about how you are doing on your commitment to
pay your tithing.
Blessing of Paying Tithes
There are tremendous blessings that accompany
the obedience to the commandment of tithing. The Lord has promised that
He will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing to much that we
can’t receive it. He will rebuke the devourer and bless us in our work.
(Malachi 3:8-11). Which of us would not desire to receive these
blessings. The Lord has stated that in order to receive blessings, we
need to obey the law to which the blessing is associated. (D&C 132:5)
I testify in the name of Jesus Christ that you
will be blessed by returning to the Lord the tenth part of what he blesses you
with. He loves you and wants to bless you.

El ajuste del diezmo es
la oportunidad de declarar a su Obispo, quien representa al Señor, su estado
sobre el diezmo, y asegurarse que sus registros de contribución sean correctos.
Todos los miembros de la familia deben asistir al ajuste de diezmo si es posible.
Su declaración sera de: Pagador de Diezmo Integro, Pagador de Diezmo Parcial o
No Pagador. Un miembro que no recibe ingresos es considerado Pagador de Diezmos
Integro.
Uno de los requisitos
para una recomendación para el templo es que un miembro pague su diezmo
integramente.
¿Qué hago si tengo una
recomendación para el templo pero no he pagado el diezmo completo? Primero, debe arrepentirse. Comience desde
ahora a pagar el diezmo integremente y comprométase a pagar un diezmo integro
por el resto de su vida. Debe asistir al ajuste de diezmo lo antes posible y
explicar su situatcion al Obispo. Él hablara con usted sobre sus esfuerzos y
probablemente le pedirá que mantenga su recomendación del templo y la use para
fortalecer su compromiso de seguir los mandamientos de Dios. Le pedirá que
regrese tres meses después para hablar sobre cómo le está yendo con su
compromiso de pagar el diezmo.
Bendición de pagar
diezmos
Hay tremendas
bendiciones que acompañan la obediencia al mandamiento del diezmo. El Señor ha
prometido que abrirá las ventanas de losl cielos y derramará bendición hasta
que sobreabundre. Él reprenderá al devorador y nos bendecirá en nuestro
trabajo. (Malaquías 3: 8-11). ¿Quién de nosotros no desea recibir estas
bendiciones? El Señor ha declarado que para recibir bendiciones, debemos
obedecer la ley a la que esta se basa.. (DyC 132: 5)
Testifico en el nombre
de Jesucristo que serán bendecidos al regresarle al Señor la décima parte de lo
que El les bendice. Él los ama y quiere bendecirlos.
